Peoria USDA Mixed Waste Disposal
Project
Contracted by the US Army Field Support
Command, Pangea characterized and removed a collection of legacy wastes
from a USDA research facility in Peoria, Illinois. The facility had
been doing research since the 1940’s and had produced a variety of
exotic chemical and biological products that were radiologically
contaminated.
Pangea provided waste characterization
services to determine proper classification and disposal requirements
necessary for each of the wastes, which resulted in the RCRA treatment
of less than half of the materials prior to disposal as radiological
waste. Minimizing the amount of treated waste substantially reduce
client cost.
Brokerage services were performed and the
waste was successfully delivered to the ultimate destination.
