The
U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) contracted Pangea to remove
approximately 2,500 cubic yards of radiologically contaminated soils and
other materials from the DLA National Stockpile Center located in New
Haven, Indiana. The facility had previously removed several stockpiles
of Uranium-bearing
Baddeleyite ore, but residual material remained on the
footprint that required removal and disposal to meet the NRC
unrestricted release criteria.
Pangea
was responsible for the development and submittal of project work plans
and health and safety plans. Pangea also provided on-site remediation
activities which included: excavation of contaminated soils; the
movement, handling, and load-out of contaminated wastes into gondola
railcars; the profiling and coordination of waste disposal of New Haven
wastes at the U.S. Ecology disposal site in Grandview, Idaho; the
coordination of waste transportation from New Haven to Grandview; post
excavation radiological surveys; and the completion and submittal of a
project closeout report indicating the results of that survey.
